Meal Preparation is More than Cooking a Meal

We believe it is a true statement when people say a meal was cooked with love.  What goes into a cooking a meal is about understanding the personality, needs and preferences of the senior.

In the home care needs assessment, we will discuss meal preparation and storage.  This is the time to talk about food preferences, timing of meals, food availability and the meal preparation itself.

What will be in the refrigerator or freezer when our care team arrives to prepare a meal(s)?  Does the senior or widower have a preference for meat, fruits, vegetiables, etc.  What about juices?  Will there be fresh fruits and vegetibles the care team can prepare juices from?  And, let’s talk about snacks and what regimium they should be administered to a senior.  Yes.  We love our seniors and meal preparation is one of our most popular home care services we enjoy!

Our Meal Services

After a senior care needs assessment, we will have a sound idea about dietary needs, food preferences and meal times.  We prepare quality meals which also includes proper food storage.

A senior may have all the food staples in their home ready for our care team to prepare a meal(s).  Or, a senior may need one of our transportation or errand services to secure food for preparation.  We have a customized home care program to fit any need or budget.

The Challenges of cooking for seniors

There are a myriad of reasons why it may be a challenge to cook for seniors.  Many seniors lack interest in cooking or their taste buds change which may lead to apathy to food.  We know that medications can affect a seniors ability to taste food.  So, we have compiled a list of healthy recipes for seniors our care team will be pleased to prepare.

Seniors generally need more B vitaimins than younger adults and their need for calcium and proteins is also higher.  Vitamin B12 is especially important since some seniors develop difficulties absorbing this nutrient through their food as they age.  It is important to note that Home Care You Deserve is not a medical practice or a nutritional company.  We are not nurses.  Therefore, any food related information on this page is not intended to be from a medical or nutritional person with those credentials.
